Since I got the early tour in Falling Waters I was also early at Kentuck Knob. That turned out to be a good thing. I got an exclusive tour. There were a couple of tours with buses behind me.
Kentuck Knob was built for the Hagan Family in the mid 50s. The Hagans were friends with the Kaufman's, the Owner of Falling Water. The Hagans made their monay with dairy products (Hagan ice crean), the Kaufmans owned the Kaufman Depatment Store in Pittsburgh (now Macy's)
Kentuck Knob is a relatively small and simple, but well designed and well executed house. Was sold in 1984 to a British Sir for $600,000 (after it was on the market for 2 years) . It is privately held, but not occupied. Sometimes rented out for private parties. No interior photos allowed
The property also includes a sculpture garden with artwork from mostely British artists, and a piece of the Berlin Wall.
Ich kam auch etwas frueher nach Kentuck Knob. Der Vorteil war dass ich eine Solotour bekam. Nach mir kamen ein paar Busse voller Touristen.
Die Bauherren fuer Kentuck Knob war die Hagan Familie. Sie waren Freunde von den Kaufmanns, die Eigentuemer von Falling Water. Die Hagans habe ihr Geld mit Milchprodukten gemacht (Hagan Eis), die Kaufman Familie besass ein grosses Kaufhaus in Pittsburgh (jetzt Macy’s)
Kentuck Knob ist relativ klein und einfach, aber sehr gut entworfen und ausgefuehrt. 1984 hat es ein Englischer Sir um $600,000.00 gekauft (nachdem es zwei Jahre am Markt war). Es ist in Privathaenden, aber nicht bewohnt. Manchmal wird es fuer Privatfetste vermietet. Keine Innenaufnahmen erlaubt.
Im Skulpturengarten der Anlage sind meist Britische Kuenstler ausgestellt. Es gibt auch ein Stueck der Berliner Mauer.
